Founded in 1984, the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra has remained the Coast’s only full-sized community orchestra. We bring together highly-skilled, amateur local musicians in an ensemble capable of performing anything from popular songs and movie soundtracks through to the most demanding symphonic repertoire. Recent concerts have played to audiences of up to 2000 people! Our annual program typically involves four concert cycles, each with around 10 weeks of rehearsals (which take place on Thursday evenings in Ashmore), followed by a break through December and January. After holding the position for the last 16 years, our present conductor is leaving us at the end of 2017 to travel. We would therefore welcome an expression of interest from any prospective conductor keen to assume that role. The ideal candidate will reside in the broader Gold Coast region, and be keen to embrace the community aspect of the orchestra … which is another way of saying that no salary is offered, except a modest bursary for each concert cycle! You must also have suitable background and experience to drive the orchestra’s artistic development and get the best from our musicians. Please contact us in the first instance at firstname.lastname@example.org – all correspondence will be promptly acknowledged. Closing date for applications is 30th November 2016.
