Players range in age from 17 to over 80!
Players have performed professionally in the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, and international orchestras such as the BBC Orchestra, London and the Scottish National Orchestra. Many orchestra members are doctors, dentists, music teachers, accountants, engineers and retired professionals all living on the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Philharmonic Society Inc. established in 1984 is a not-for-profit, incorporated organisation run for and by the community. The vision for the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra is to celebrate the Gold Coast’s cultural diversity through the performance and enjoyment of music, and to present affordable concerts for the local community.
“A Great Orchestra for a Dynamic Area”
All players and members of the Philharmonic Society participate for the love of music, not only as an opportunity to play and perform high quality orchestral music, but also as a social network of orchestral music lovers.
Musicians interested in playing with the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra are invited to fill in the “Expression of Interest” survey. Positions in the orchestra are determined by the Conductor, Concertmaster and the Section Leader. There are ongoing vacancies in the string sections. All applications require a current minimum playing standard of at least AMEB Grade 6 or equivalent.
COMMITMENT
The Conductor publishes a rehearsal schedule with the concert program and performance dates prior to each concert season.
Players being offered a place should:
• Be able to commit to a majority of the rehearsals
(We understand players are volunteers and have external commitments but the success of the orchestra relies on regular rehearsal attendance)
• Pay membership fees to assist with payment of insurances, music and rehearsal venue
• Commit to the practise of their part and to playing the part to the best of their ability, and to the satisfaction of the section leader
• Commit to attend performances
• Encourage audiences to attend the orchestra’s concerts. Audience attendance helps ensure lower membership.
