Concert Wrap – “Arabian Nights”

It was wonderful to share a special afternoon with so many of you, as an audience of over 200 enjoyed the exotic oriental sounds and colours of Arabian Nights. While the huge crowd stretched our facilities a little, it is always a pleasure to welcome music lovers to our “home” … which had undergone an impressive facelift for the occasion.

The orchestra must be congratulated for an excellent performance of some very challenging pieces. From the dark, foreboding chords and plaintive violin melody that open Scheherazade, through to the endless desert vistas that the theme from Lawrence of Arabia always evokes, it was a program showcasing orchestral music at its finest. We were very gratified that so many of you took the trouble to say how much you’d enjoyed it.

We especially thank our volunteer caterers (Jenny, Elaine, Bob and Ted) for their usual tireless efforts, and Heidi and Pam for their work on the stage.
