Photography, video and art provide a glimpse into the mind of both the artist and the subject and acts as a mirror to the audience. Add music to the equation and we touch the soul.

The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra will join with photographer Yuichiro Yanome (www.yanome.com), artist and children’s book author and illustrator John Harrison, videographer Patrick Stapleton and will collaborate with the Royal Queensland Art Society and the Gold Coast art community to present “Portraits”, a unique mix of orchestral concert, video documentary and art exhibition.

Guests will be invited to wander the art exhibition on arrival before being seated to enjoy the orchestral concert, which will link the art of John Harrison and the photography of Yuichiro Yanome with the music of the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra and video documentary of the collaborative process by Patrick Stapleton. Yuichiro, John, Patrick and the orchestra will each interpret the music and instruments, which will be bought together on the big screen for the audience.

The concert program will include the Promenade and The Gnome from Pictures at an exhibition by Mussorgsky, the Unfinished Symphony by Schubert, repertoire by Beethoven, Verdi, Shostakovich and more.

Conductor Mark Turpin says, ‘I am very excited about this program which will not only present our usual high quality orchestral repertoire to the Gold Coast audiences and showcase our wonderful local musicians but also to continue the tradition we have of working with and supporting our fellow local community organisations.

In music we use our imagination to bring our feelings to life. To look into the imagination of two artists and to see how they interpret our music will create a unique event for the Gold Coast’.

The Orchestra is also very proud to introduce the Gold Coast to another high quality performing venue and thank the Queensland Academy for Health Sciences for the use of the Queensland Academies Theatre and Gallery Space to hold this concert. There is plenty of free parking.

The Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra is a proud member of Volunteering Gold Coast and the Gold Coast Theatre Alliance and is supported by City of Gold Coast.
